On the morning of July 2, Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine launched the "1K Herb Genomes Project" and established the "1K Herb Genomes Project" Research Alliance. On the same day, domestic experts and scholars in the fields of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Genomics, Medicinal Zoology and Botany, Life Science and so on gathered together and discussed about the difficulties and problems against the development of traditional Chinese medicine and how to use the genetic resources of traditional Chinese medicine to lift the development of the traditional Chinese medicine industry into a new stage.
Yu Shuguang, head of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, said that Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine has always been committed to the research and exploration of traditional Chinese medicine resources and the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine, and has built the State Key Laboratory of Southwestern Chinese Medicine Resource and National Traditional Chinese Medicine Germplasm Resource Bank. The "1K Herb Genomes Project" will promote the deep integration of medicinal plants and traditional Chinese medicine with cutting-edge life science and technology, and achieve leap-forward integration and development in the field of medical research.
It is understood that the project plans to systematically collect and sort out 1,000 of medicinal plant resources and build an material library; complete genome sequencing of more than 1,000 medicinal plants; integrate the multi-omics data obtained for this research plan, to build a multi-omics database of 1,000 medicinal plant genomes and species, and provide comprehensive data support for related researches at home and abroad.
