Vice-Chancellor of Keele University, Pauline Walsh, Leads Delegation on a Visit to CDUTCM

On October 17th, Professor Pauline Walsh, the Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Keele University in the UK, led a delegation to Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The purpose of their visit was to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the CDUTCM-Keele Joint Health and Medical Sciences Institute and engage in discussions aimed at further enhancing cooperation between the two universities.


The meeting was attended by Dr. Yu Shuguang, President of CDUTCM’s vice President Zeng Fang, as well as officials from various departments including the Student Affairs Office, Academic Affairs Office, Science and Technology Office, International Cooperation and Exchange Office, the CDUTCM-Keele Joint Health and Medical Sciences Institute, Health and Rehabilitation College, and the Nursing college. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Chen Yuan, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office and the Dean of the the CDUTCM-Keele Joint Health and Medical Sciences Institute.

President Yu Shuguang extended a warm welcome to the delegation led by the President of Keele University and expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated efforts of both Chinese and British staff who contributed to the establishment of the CDUTCM-Keele Joint Health and Medical Sciences Institute.

 

He mentioned that in May of this year, Secretary Yi Liu led a delegation to visit Keele University, during which the leaders of both universities jointly outlined the blueprint for the development of the cooperative college. This visit aims to put into practice the earlier planning and lay a solid foundation for further cooperation between the two universities. President Yu expressed his hope that the collaborative college would leverage the strengths of both institutions to cultivate high-quality talents for the booming health industry.

Vice President Zeng Fang provided an overview of our university's overall development and the recent achievements in international cooperation and exchanges. She expressed her aspiration to use the establishment of the CDUTCM-Keele Joint Health and Medical Sciences Institute as a cornerstone to build a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary, and multi-level framework for educational and research cooperation between two universities.

Professor Pauline Walsh provided an introduction to the historical evolution of Keele University, its key academic disciplines, and distinctive educational characteristics. She also offered a detailed overview of the academic programs and research achievements within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Professor Walsh expressed her desire for both universities to maintain a high-quality international exchange relationship and substantively advance cooperation in the field of health.

Representatives from both sides engaged in discussions on various areas of cooperation, including faculty and student development, interdisciplinary integration, research exchange, and college development, all with a shared vision for the future.

In the afternoon, the delegation from Keele University visited various facilities, including the museum, experimental teaching center, library, Nursing College, Acupuncture and Moxibustion and Tuina Therapy College, and the CDUTCM-Keele Joint Health and Medical Sciences Institute.
